Celta hit the skids after blistering start to 2026

After a stellar run of form bridging 2025-26, Celta Vigo have hit their worst league patch of the season with just one point from nine, jeopardizing European hopes.

Celta’s European dreams hanging by a thread as their brilliant winter form evaporates into a concerning slump.

From heroes to zeros

Talk about your Jekyll and Hyde performances! After absolutely bossing it through the tail end of 2025 and into the new year, Celta Vigo have suddenly hit the wall in spectacular fashion. The Galicians had been on an absolute tear, collecting a stunning 16 points from 18 available across the festive period and January - including wins against Valencia, Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano to kick off 2026.

That run had the Balaídos faithful dreaming of European nights next season, but the bubble has well and truly burst over the past few weeks.

Current form: Proper pants

The current skid represents Celta’s worst league run of the entire campaign:

  • Defeat away to Real Sociedad in San Sebastián
  • A solitary point from their trip to Getafe
  • A particularly painful home loss to Osasuna at Balaídos

Just one measly point from nine available has seen that lovely cushion they’d built up slowly deflate. Though they’re still clinging to seventh spot in the table, the teams below must be licking their lips at the prospect of reeling them in.

Goals drying up

It’s not just the results that have gone south. Claudio Giráldez’s men have seen their attacking threat severely blunted, managing just two goals across these three matches - both coming from striker Borja Iglesias. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Radu has been picking the ball out of his net with alarming regularity, conceding five times during this rocky patch.

Critical fixtures ahead

With European qualification hanging in the balance, February shapes up as an absolutely massive month. Next Saturday brings a proper six-pointer away at Espanyol - who themselves have European ambitions - before returning to Balaídos to face Mallorca to close out the month.

The Adam and Eve’s never looked more precarious for Celta’s continental dreams than right now. Time to stop the rot, lads.
