Las Palmas in scoring drought as promotion hopes fade

Luis García's side created plenty of chances against Burgos but couldn't find the net, extending their winless run to five matches in 2026.

Frustration reigns in the Canary Islands as Las Palmas continue to misfire in front of goal.

Chance creation not the problem

Las Palmas’ 0-0 draw with Burgos this weekend perfectly encapsulates their recent struggles. The islanders peppered the opposition goal with 16 shots and generated an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.88 - but couldn’t find the back of the net for love nor money.

Benedetti summed up the mood in the dressing room after the match, acknowledging that while the team played well, the ball simply refused to go in. His manager Luis García was even more direct about the team’s frustrations:

“We did everything right except score the goal,” the gaffer admitted, clearly gutted with the result.

From clinical to wasteful

What makes this particularly painful for Las Palmas supporters is how dramatically their fortunes have changed. Earlier in the season, the team was flying high thanks to:

  • Rock-solid defensive performances
  • Clinical finishing in front of goal

García himself pointed out this stark contrast, noting that earlier in the campaign they seemed to convert every half-chance that came their way. Now they’re struggling to put away even the clearest opportunities.

Promotion hopes under threat

The numbers make for grim reading:

  • Just one win in 2026 so far
  • Five matches without victory
  • Only four goals scored in that winless run
  • Eight goals conceded during the same period

For a side with serious promotion aspirations, this sort of form simply isn’t going to cut the mustard. If Las Palmas can’t rediscover their shooting boots soon, they might find their Segunda División stay extended for another season.

The islanders desperately need to find that clinical edge again - and quick - before their promotion rivals disappear up the apples and pears.
