Burgos rediscover their defensive steel away from home

Jon Ramis' side kept a clean sheet on the road for only the third time this season, frustrating Las Palmas to earn a valuable point in LaLiga Hypermotion.

After shipping goals for fun in their previous away trips, Burgos CF have finally rediscovered their defensive backbone with a gritty goalless draw against Las Palmas.

Defensive masterclass

The clean sheet couldn’t have come at a better time for Jon Ramis’ men, who had been leaking goals like a dodgy tap in their previous away fixtures. Those painful defeats at Córdoba’s Nuevo Arcángel and Málaga’s La Rosaleda had set alarm bells ringing, but this resolute display against one of the division’s most attack-minded sides shows there’s still plenty of defensive nous in this Burgos outfit.

Much of the credit must go to goalkeeper Ander Cantero, who pulled off several top-drawer saves to preserve the point. His performance between the sticks was absolutely crucial - the sort that has defenders buying him dinner afterwards.

Road warriors (occasionally)

It’s only the third time this season that Burgos have kept a clean sheet on their travels:

  • At Riazor against Deportivo (matchday 2)
  • At Mendizorroza in their 2-0 victory over Mirandés
  • Now at Las Palmas

In every other away fixture, they’ve conceded at least once, which makes this defensive shutout all the more valuable for their confidence.

Statistical strength

The numbers don’t lie about Burgos’ defensive credentials:

  • Second-best defensive record in LaLiga Hypermotion (24 goals conceded)
  • Best home defence in the division (just 9 goals shipped in 13 matches at El Plantío)

This defensive solidity has been the bread and butter of their campaign, particularly at their El Plantío fortress where they’ve been proper Adam Ant (adamant) about not giving away goals.

Looking ahead

Now the focus shifts to maintaining their impressive home form, with Cádiz visiting El Plantío this Saturday. Burgos will be hunting their fourth consecutive home victory, looking to further cement their reputation as one of the division’s toughest nuts to crack on home soil.

If they can combine their home fortress mentality with this renewed defensive resilience on the road, Ramis’ boys might just be in for a right treat this season.
