Oviedo rule out quick rescheduling of Rayo clash as club awaits official ruling
Real Oviedo confirms their suspended match against Rayo Vallecano won't be played in coming days as they pursue formal complaint for the three points.
Real Oviedo have confirmed their postponed fixture against Rayo Vallecano won’t be rescheduled for the immediate future, as the club continues to fight for the three points following Saturday’s controversial late cancellation.
Waiting game begins
Two days after formally requesting the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) award them the three points from the suspended match, Oviedo are now in limbo as the Competition Judge has issued their initial response.
While no final decision has been made, the judge has called on all involved parties - Rayo Vallecano, LaLiga, RFEF and the Referees’ Technical Committee - to submit their reports and statements regarding the incident at Vallecas.
The Asturian club stated they will “continue with the necessary steps in defense of their rights and those of their fans” while advocating for “equitable application of regulations for all teams participating in the competition.” In other words, they’re not having it, and fair play to them.
Fan compensation efforts
The situation has left many Oviedo supporters proper out of pocket. Hundreds made the lengthy journey to Madrid only for the match to be called off due to the state of Rayo’s pitch - a decision that only came after:
- Oviedo fans had already traveled to Madrid
- Many had paid for accommodation and transport
- The postponement was announced just hours before kickoff
In response, Oviedo have set up an official channel for affected supporters to register their expenses, with the club planning to present these claims to the relevant authorities to seek compensation for their loyal followers.
The club first announced their intention to pursue this matter through all available competitive and disciplinary bodies within the RFEF just 24 hours after LaLiga suspended the fixture. If necessary, they’ve made clear they’re prepared to take their case to administrative and judicial authorities.
For now, it’s all a bit Pete Tong for the away fans who made the trip, but Oviedo are clearly determined to fight their corner both for sporting justice and financial compensation.
