André Silva backs Elche to beat the drop despite six-match winless run
Portuguese striker remains confident in Elche's survival chances ahead of crucial Friday night clash with Osasuna at Martínez Valero.
Portuguese forward André Silva has issued a rallying cry for Elche as they look to snap a worrying six-match winless streak that has left them hovering just two points above the relegation zone.
Confidence despite poor form
The former Porto and Milan striker spoke to the press ahead of Friday’s crucial home fixture against Osasuna, and despite their precarious position, Silva remains convinced about his team’s survival prospects.
“We have enough quality to stay in La Liga,” Silva declared, showing remarkable composure for a player whose team has shipped 15 goals in their last six outings. Talk about leaking like a dodgy roof in December!
The Portuguese international was quick to provide perspective on their current predicament:
- He emphasized that every match holds equal importance in their season
- Reminded everyone that football fortunes can change rapidly
- Stressed they weren’t “the best team when winning, nor the worst now”
Personal form improving
On a more positive note, Silva himself appears to be finding his shooting boots after returning from injury. He netted Elche’s lone goal in their defeat to Real Sociedad last weekend and seems determined to build on that performance.
“I’m feeling better every day with more confidence,” the striker revealed about his physical and mental state. “I want to bring my best version to help the team.”
Silva also expressed his contentment with life at the club, praising both the football philosophy and the unwavering support from the terraces.
Defensive concerns
When pressed about Elche’s defensive frailties - a proper Achilles heel for the team lately - Silva acknowledged there’s room for improvement while defending their attacking approach:
“We’re analyzing it and need to adapt. We aim to be daring and this can happen. We have our strengths and areas to improve. I believe our style of play excites us.”
The striker is banking on home advantage making the difference against an in-form Osasuna side when they meet on Friday night (21:00 local time) at Martínez Valero.
