Betis boost as injured trio return to training

Cucho Hernández, Bellerín and Chimy Ávila have all stepped up their recovery by returning to grass-based training ahead of Betis' trip to Mallorca.

Pellegrini’s squad options looking healthier as key players edge closer to full fitness

Some proper good news for the Verdiblancos today as three injured players made their return to the training pitch, albeit working separately from the main group.

The returning trio

After Tuesday’s day off, Wednesday’s session at Betis saw a welcome sight for Manuel Pellegrini with a trio of sidelined stars taking steps forward in their recovery:

  • Cucho Hernández - The Colombian has been on the treatment table for a month with a muscle problem
  • Héctor Bellerín - The former Arsenal man has been missing in action for several weeks
  • Chimy Ávila - The Argentine forward missed Sunday’s trip to the Metropolitano with niggling discomfort

While all three trained away from the main group, the fact they were back on the grass and involved in ball work represents significant progress in their rehabilitation.

Mallorca preparations

The Betis squad is ramping up preparations for Sunday’s visit to Mallorca, where they’ll be hunting three points to cement their hold on fifth place in the table.

Pellegrini’s men still have one eye on potentially closing the gap to the Champions League spots, and getting players back from injury will be crucial to those ambitions.

It remains unclear whether Chimy or Cucho will recover in time for the weekend’s fixture, but their return to training will be music to the Engineer’s ears as Betis enter a crucial period of the season.
