Racing's injury woes deepen as Pablo Ramón joins growing list of absentees
The Cantabrian club's defensive options take another hit with Mallorca-born centre-back out for up to three weeks with hamstring trouble.
League leaders Racing Santander face a fresh injury setback with Pablo Ramón sidelined for 2-3 weeks after medical tests revealed a hamstring strain in his right thigh.
Defensive reshuffle required
The on-loan Espanyol defender has been a mainstay in Racing’s backline since his arrival, establishing himself as an undisputed starter. Ramón picked up the injury during the clash against Granada and was already absent for Monday’s fixture against Mirandés due to suspension for accumulated yellow cards.
Manu Hernando stepped in to replace Ramón against Mirandés and looks set to continue in the defensive role for the coming weeks as Racing navigate this challenging period.
Mounting injury crisis
The treatment room at Racing is getting rather packed these days, with Ramón merely the latest addition to an increasingly concerning injury list:
- Manex Lozano - ruled out for the entire season
- Asier Villalibre - currently sidelined
- Peio Canales - though potentially returning for Sunday’s match against Eibar
Selection headache for José Alberto
Manager José Alberto’s options are further limited by suspensions to Arana and Salinas for the upcoming Eibar clash. Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place!
There is one silver lining for the gaffer, though. New signing Jaime Mata, who joined on Monday to bolster Racing’s attacking options, could be in line to make his debut against Eibar this weekend.
For a side sitting pretty at the top of the table, these injury troubles couldn’t have come at a worse time. The next few weeks will be a proper test of their promotion credentials and squad depth as they look to maintain their position without several key players.
