Spurs sack Thomas Frank after dismal Premier League run
Tottenham have dismissed Danish manager Thomas Frank after just nine months in charge, with the club sitting three points above the relegation zone.
Tottenham Hotspur have pulled the trigger on Thomas Frank after a nightmare spell that’s left the North London club looking down rather than up.
From bad to worse
The Danish gaffer has been given his marching orders after just nine months in the hot seat, following a run that’s seen Spurs win just one home match in 2026. Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou last summer, leaves with the club sitting 16th in the Premier League table - a mere three points above the drop zone.
The final nail in the coffin came after Tuesday’s defeat to Newcastle United, capping a dreadful run that’s seen Tottenham lose five of their last nine matches across all competitions.
Premier League nightmare
The stats make for grim reading:
- Eight Premier League games without a win - their worst run since Juande Ramos in 2008
- Just 13 wins from 37 matches in all competitions
- Sitting 16th in the league table
- Regular boos from the home faithful
While Frank did manage to guide Spurs to the Champions League knockout stages as group winners - perhaps his only saving grace - their domestic form has been nothing short of diabolical.
Cup disappointments
The domestic cup competitions provided no respite either. Tottenham crashed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle against Aston Villa and exited the League Cup in the second round against Newcastle.
Mitigating factors
In Frank’s defense, his tenure has coincided with significant upheaval behind the scenes. Daniel Levy’s departure ended an era at the club, while captain Cristian Romero has publicly criticized the board on multiple occasions. The manager also dealt with disciplinary issues including Yves Bissouma’s repeated lateness resulting in his removal from the squad.
An injury crisis that saw up to eleven first-team players sidelined simultaneously didn’t help matters, though the club’s brass clearly felt this wasn’t enough to excuse the results given the £265 million spent on summer reinforcements including Xavi Simmons, Mohammed Kudus, and Conor Gallagher.
Managerial merry-go-round
Frank becomes the fifth manager to fail to establish himself at Tottenham since Mauricio Pochettino’s 2019 departure, following José Mourinho, Nuno Espírito Santo, Antonio Conte, and Postecoglou through the revolving door.
The club now has eleven days to sort out a replacement before their next fixture - a North London derby against Arsenal on February 22nd.
