Zaragoza appeal El Yamiq's red card suspension as club fumes over 'manifest error'

Real Zaragoza taking their case to Appeals Committee after Disciplinary Committee upholds El Yamiq's controversial red card against Eibar.

Real Zaragoza left fuming as Jawad El Yamiq’s controversial dismissal against Eibar stands, with the club now escalating their fight to the Appeals Committee in hopes of having their defender available for Saturday’s crucial clash with Cultural Leonesa.

Suspension upheld despite protests

The Disciplinary Committee has given El Yamiq’s protests the cold shoulder, slapping him with a one-match ban following his contentious red card in last Saturday’s fixture. Zaragoza aren’t having any of it, mind you, and have announced they’ll be taking their case upstairs to the Appeals Committee.

The club didn’t mince words in their statement, declaring they have the “firm purpose of having the manifest material error recognized” and getting both the red card and resulting suspension overturned. Zaragoza had already expressed their “deep discomfort” on Monday about the incident at the Ibercaja Estadio.

“We don’t understand how a clearly unjust expulsion generates evident sporting, social and economic damage,” the club stated after consulting with the relevant authorities.

Calling for consistency

Zaragoza’s statement goes on to demand more from officials, albeit with a respectful tone:

“With maximum respect for the refereeing collective, the various bodies involved in these processes, and the inherent complexity of their work, we demand that the application of regulations be carried out with maximum rigor, coherence and uniformity, in defense of the prestige of the competition and the respect due to our club and our fans.”

Injury boost for Sellés

It’s not all doom and gloom at the Aragonese club, though. In a proper result for manager Rubén Sellés, three previously doubtful players - Nikola Cumic, Pablo Insua and Dani Gómez - have all returned to full training this morning. The trio’s availability comes as a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s important away day in León.

Whether El Yamiq joins them on the team coach remains to be seen, but Zaragoza are clearly not ready to throw in the towel on that front just yet.
