Bournemouth secure Álex Jiménez permanently as Madrid cash in on clever clause

The Spanish right-back's Premier League move becomes permanent with Real Madrid set to bank around €13 million from the deal thanks to a shrewd sell-on clause.

Young Spanish right-back Álex Jiménez has sealed his long-term future at AFC Bournemouth, with the Premier League club triggering their purchase option after his impressive loan spell. Real Madrid are set for a tidy windfall from the deal.

Premier League permanence

What started as a temporary move to the south coast has turned into a proper Adam and Eve for Jiménez. The 20-year-old Spanish defender has convinced Bournemouth’s brass to make his transfer permanent following a progressive integration into Andoni Iraola’s starting eleven.

The Cherries have now exercised their purchase obligation from AC Milan, securing the youngster on a lengthy contract running until 2031 – a clear statement of their belief in his potential.

Bournemouth’s technical director Tiago Pinto didn’t mince his words about the capture: “He’s had an impressive career, beginning his development at both Real Madrid and AC Milan.”

Madrid’s money-making masterclass

This transfer represents another example of Real Madrid’s shrewd business model with their academy products. Despite Jiménez technically being an AC Milan player when loaned to Bournemouth, Madrid’s foresight means they’ll pocket around €13 million from the deal.

How? When the defender left the Bernabéu, Madrid inserted a 50% sell-on clause – a strategy they’ve deployed with numerous La Fabrica graduates including:

  • Nico Paz
  • Rafa Marín
  • Jacobo Ramón

The total package for Jiménez amounts to €20 million fixed plus up to €5 million in variables, making this a significant investment from the Premier League side.

Win-win scenario

The deal represents smart business all round:

  • For Bournemouth: They secure a promising young right-back with top-level pedigree who’s already adapting well to English football
  • For Jiménez: Regular Premier League football and a clear pathway for development under compatriot Iraola
  • For Madrid: A substantial cash injection without having to develop the player further themselves

It’s another example of how Los Blancos continue to monetise their academy talent even after they’ve left the club – proving that La Fabrica isn’t just producing players for the first team, but also generating significant revenue streams.
