Brian Ocampo heading for Cádiz exit as Colombian side comes knocking
Independiente Santa Fe in talks with Uruguayan winger Brian Ocampo as his Cádiz contract winds down, with the Colombian club exploring multiple options to seal the deal.
Cádiz’s Uruguayan winger Brian Ocampo looks set for a South American return with Colombian outfit Independiente Santa Fe actively negotiating his departure from southern Spain.
Contract situation opens door for exit
The 26-year-old Uruguayan international finds himself in a rather tasty position with his Cádiz contract expiring on June 30th. This gives Ocampo complete freedom to negotiate his next move, and the Colombian side are keen to sort something before their transfer window slams shut on March 6th.
Santa Fe are exploring two potential avenues to get their man:
- Pay an immediate release fee with Cádiz retaining a percentage of any future sale
- Arrange for Ocampo to sign a contract extension at Cádiz followed by an immediate loan with a purchase option
End of Spanish chapter
Should Ocampo make the move to Colombia, it would bring the curtain down on his Spanish adventure that began back in 2022. Cádiz splashed out a not-insignificant €1.9 million to bring the winger from Nacional Montevideo to La Tacita de Plata.
Despite showing flashes of his undoubted quality during his time in Spain, the negotiations suggest Ocampo’s future lies away from the Nuevo Mirandilla stadium.
Financial implications
For Cádiz, this potential departure represents a proper head-scratcher. The club now faces the challenge of managing the exit of a player who cost them a fair few bob in transfer fees just a couple of years ago.
With Ocampo free to sign pre-contract agreements with any club, Cádiz are clearly looking to minimize the financial hit they’ll take on one of their more significant recent investments in the transfer market.
The coming weeks will determine whether the Uruguayan continues in yellow or trades it for the red and white of Santa Fe in Colombia’s top flight.
