Castellón plotting to turn up the heat for crucial Deportivo clash

Albinegros call on fans to create hostile atmosphere at SkyFi Castalia as promotion rivals lock horns in Sunday night's Second Division showdown.

Castellón are urging supporters to arrive early and crank up the atmosphere ahead of Sunday’s massive promotion six-pointer against Deportivo La Coruña.

Battle for automatic promotion

This weekend’s clash at SkyFi Castalia could have massive implications in the race for promotion to La Liga. The stakes couldn’t be higher – a home win would put Pablo Hernández’s Castellón five points clear of the Galicians, while an away victory would see Depor leapfrog the hosts into the automatic promotion spots.

With so much on the line, Castellón’s players have made a public appeal through club channels, asking supporters to create a proper bear pit atmosphere before the 9pm kickoff.

“We need you there from 8:15pm to heat things up a bit. With your support, we’ll win,” urged the trio of Alberto Jiménez, Beñat Gerenabarrena and Raúl Sánchez in their rallying cry to the faithful.

Fortress Castalia

Castellón’s home form has been absolutely bob on this season:

  • Seven consecutive home victories
  • Turning SkyFi Castalia into a proper fortress
  • Now facing their toughest test against the division’s best away side

The Albinegros (White and Blacks) have been giving teams a proper spanking on home turf, but they’ll need to be at their best against a Deportivo side who’ve been collecting points on their travels like they’re going out of fashion.

Suero confident

Midfielder Israel Suero believes his team’s current purple patch puts them in good stead for Sunday’s showdown.

“We’re in good form and we need to make the most of it,” said Suero, who praised manager Pablo Hernández’s impact, noting that “everything the gaffer tells us is working perfectly.”

Suero also emphasized the importance of maintaining concentration for the full 90 minutes and believes the supporters “deserve something special this season” – which in their book would mean a return to Segunda after their recent stint in the third tier.

With both promotion rivals in decent nick, Sunday’s clash promises to be a proper Bobby Moore. The atmosphere at Castalia might just tip the balance in what could be a season-defining encounter.
