Font already 'working on summer transfers' for Barça's next window

Presidential hopeful Víctor Font claims his team is already identifying key positions to strengthen ahead of the summer transfer window, regardless of election timing.

Barcelona presidential candidate Víctor Font reveals he’s not waiting for election results before planning the club’s summer transfer strategy, claiming his team has already identified “three or four positions” needing reinforcement.

Font’s transfer preparations

The businessman, who previously ran in Barcelona’s last presidential election, has been touring Catalonia to present his project to club members. During a recent stop in Vic, Font emphasized that Barça cannot afford to wait until July 1st, when the new president takes office, to begin sporting preparations.

“We’re already working on summer transfers to strengthen the squad,” Font explained to supporters. The candidate stressed that his sporting structure would ensure player registrations won’t depend on last-minute injuries or departures, as has happened during recent transfer windows.

Font claims his team has already:

  • Identified 3-4 positions needing reinforcement
  • Developed a sporting plan for Hansi Flick’s squad
  • Begun preliminary market work

However, the presidential hopeful hasn’t revealed which specific positions he’s targeting for improvement.

Sporting director mystery

Font confirmed he’s already chosen his sporting director but can’t reveal the name as the individual remains under contract elsewhere. He did make clear that current sporting director Deco is not in his plans should he win the March 15th election.

The candidate promised to share more details about his sporting project in the coming days. Meanwhile, he’s continuing his campaign trail with scheduled stops in Vilassar de Mar, Sant Cugat, Terrassa, Amposta, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Barcelona itself.

It’s a proper busy schedule for the bloke, but Font clearly believes his advance planning gives him an edge in the race for the Barcelona hot seat. Whether members will be convinced by his approach remains to be seen, but at least someone’s thinking about how to sort out Barça’s squad situation before the summer madness kicks off.
