Malsa makes Mirandés return as Pablo Pérez faces injury setback

Martinican midfielder Mickael Malsa rejoins CD Mirandés until June, while on-loan Atlético defender Pablo Pérez faces weeks out with a complex soleus muscle injury.

Mirandés have secured the return of former fan favourite Mickael Malsa to Anduva, while simultaneously dealing with the blow of losing Pablo Pérez to injury for several weeks.

Malsa back for second stint

In what will be music to Mirandés supporters’ ears, the Martinican midfielder has officially rejoined the club until June, strengthening the engine room at a crucial point in the Segunda División campaign.

The rojillos have described their returning hero as a player with tremendous physical attributes, known particularly for his intensity and intelligent positioning on the pitch.

Football fans in Miranda de Ebro will have fond memories of Malsa’s previous spell at the club during the 2019-20 season, when he established himself as one of the standout performers. His impressive displays earned him a move up the ladder to Levante, where he made over 50 appearances in La Liga.

Since then, the well-traveled midfielder has had stints at:

  • Real Valladolid
  • Turkish side Kasımpaşa
  • Moroccan outfit Wydad Athletic Club

Now he’s back where he made his name in Spanish football, looking to help Mirandés in their battle for Segunda survival.

Pérez injury blow

While one door opens, another slams shut. The club has confirmed that defender Pablo Pérez will be sidelined for several weeks with a complex injury to the central myoaponeurotic junction of the soleus muscle in his left leg. Bit of a mouthful that one, but the long and short is he’ll be out for a fair few games.

The Atlético Madrid loanee had already missed the recent match against Racing due to these issues. Initial assessments suggested it wasn’t anything too serious, but further examinations revealed a more complicated problem than first thought.

Pérez had been struggling with muscular problems that simply wouldn’t go away, prompting the additional tests that uncovered this more significant injury. The club hasn’t yet provided a specific timeline for his recovery.

Positive news on Igor Nikic

It’s not all doom and gloom in the treatment room though. There’s some positive news regarding goalkeeper Igor Nikic, who has been cleared to return to action after spending several weeks on the sidelines. He’ll be available for selection when Antxon Muneta’s squad faces Las Palmas this Sunday.
