Abde's Mallorca masterclass has him dreaming of Champions League with Betis
Moroccan winger Abde Ezzalzouli speaks about his goal against Mallorca, his development as a player, and Betis' European ambitions after being named MVP.
Betis’ Moroccan winger continues his fine form with another goal and MVP performance as the Verdiblancos push for European football’s top table.
Son Moix Stunner
Abde Ezzalzouli was the difference-maker as Real Betis secured a crucial victory away at Mallorca, with the Moroccan international opening the scoring and later being named the match’s MVP. The goal sees him equal his best-ever scoring tally for a season - with nearly half the campaign still to play.
The winger’s intelligent movement to the back post proved decisive, as he explained his understanding with teammate Antony: “I always try to reach the far post when Antony has it on the wing, I know he’s going to look for me there.”
Betis’ 12th Man
One thing that clearly had the Morocco international buzzing was the travelling Betis support at Son Moix. The Green and Whites fans have developed quite the reputation for their passionate away followings, and Abde was quick to acknowledge their contribution.
“The Betis supporters are absolutely mental,” he enthused. “Wherever we go, they’re right there with us. We’re all a bit barmy in the head, and I’m truly grateful for them.”
European Dreams
While some players might be content with mid-table mediocrity, Abde has set his sights considerably higher. The Champions League might seem a tall order for Betis, but the former Barcelona man isn’t shying away from the challenge.
“We need to continue on this path, keep working hard and set ourselves that objective of reaching the Champions League. It’s not easy, but hopefully we can get there by the end of the season.”
Player Development
Interestingly, Mallorca boss Jagoba Arrasate previously managed Abde during a loan spell at Osasuna. When asked how he’s changed since then, the winger acknowledged his growth:
“Well, the years and the matches give you experience, I’m a little bit more mature now.”
With performances like this, Betis fans will be hoping their exciting winger continues his development as they chase European football’s top prize.
