Arambarri: Getafe's Unlikely Goal Machine Cementing His Legacy

Mauro Arambarri continues his remarkable scoring form for Getafe, approaching club's all-time top 10 scorers despite not being a striker. The Uruguayan midfielder is becoming a club legend.

The Uruguayan midfielder is enjoying a purple patch that’s lasted two years, with goals becoming his best mate in the beautiful game. After a lengthy spell on the sidelines, he’s now the backbone of a Getafe side relying on his scoring prowess.

Goal Machine in Midfield

Arambarri has notched five goals this season, making him Getafe’s top marksman for the second consecutive campaign. For Bordalás, he’s the perfect soldier both on and off the pitch - a manager’s dream who delivers when it matters most.

What’s particularly impressive is that the midfielder is now on the brink of breaking into Getafe’s all-time top 10 goalscorers in La Liga. He currently sits 12th, level with Javi Casquero after converting from the spot last weekend against Villarreal.

Just three more goals would see him overtake some proper Getafe legends:

  • Pedro León
  • Dani Güiza
  • Jorge Molina

That’s some achievement for a player who isn’t even a striker by trade! Talk about punching above your weight.

Club Legend Status Loading…

Arambarri touched down in the southern Madrid suburb back in summer 2017 and has since racked up an impressive 227 top-flight appearances. Barring any surprises, he’ll finish this season among the top three players with the most La Liga appearances for Los Azulones.

He’s just two games away from matching his compatriot and former teammate Damián Suárez (229), whom he’ll surpass after playing three more matches. Only current squad members David Soria (279) and Djené Dakonam (293) have made more appearances.

For a player who cost peanuts when he arrived, Arambarri’s turning into the dog’s dinner at Getafe - becoming a genuine club legend right before our eyes. Not too shabby for a midfielder who’s found his shooting boots in his late twenties!
