Betis boosted as Cucho, Chimy and Bellerín edge closer to return
Manuel Pellegrini's squad returned to training following their impressive win at Mallorca, with three key players nearing full fitness ahead of Rayo clash.
Real Betis received a triple fitness boost as Cucho Hernández, Chimy Ávila and Héctor Bellerín all stepped up their recovery during Tuesday’s training session at Ciudad Deportiva Luis del Sol.
After enjoying a well-deserved day off following their brilliant victory at Son Moix against Mallorca, the Verdiblancos were back at the training ground with some welcome additions to the group.
Returning trio
While all three players participated in some training sessions last week, Pellegrini’s coaching staff decided to give them additional recovery time rather than rushing them back. The decision now appears to be paying dividends:
- Colombian striker Cucho Hernández completed full training
- Argentine forward Chimy Ávila also trained with no restrictions
- Spanish right-back Bellerín participated partially with the main group
Both attackers look set to be available for Saturday’s clash against Rayo Vallecano, which gives Pellegrini a proper week to prepare his squad. The gaffer will be absolutely chuffed to have more firepower at his disposal.
Bellerín’s situation remains more cautious – the coaching staff will assess whether he’s ready for this weekend or if they’ll save him for the Seville derby the following week. No need to put the mockers on his recovery by rushing things.
Injury updates
Brazilian winger Antony continues managing his ongoing pubic issues, alternating between gym and pitch sessions to ensure he can perform on matchdays without aggravating the condition. Smart management from the medical team, that.
The treatment room still houses three key players:
- Isco Alarcón
- Sofyan Amrabat
- Giovani Lo Celso
Of these remaining absentees, Moroccan midfielder Amrabat appears closest to a comeback. He’s currently completing the first phase of his rehabilitation in Holland and is expected to return to Seville either late this week or early next.
With Betis finding form and players returning from injury, Pellegrini’s boys will fancy their chances against Rayo this weekend as they look to climb the table. The squad depth is looking proper decent all of a sudden.
