Chiringuito pundit loses plot, demands Barça quit La Liga over 'Madrid bias'

TV journalist Jota Jordi's extraordinary rant calling for Barcelona to withdraw from La Liga following controversial defeat to Girona has sparked debate about officiating standards.

Spanish football pundit Jota Jordi unleashed an extraordinary tirade on popular TV show El Chiringuito, calling for Barcelona to withdraw from La Liga entirely, claiming the competition is rigged in Real Madrid’s favour.

Meltdown in Montilivi

The journalist’s outburst came after Barcelona’s disappointing 2-1 defeat at Girona’s Montilivi stadium, with Jordi particularly incensed by the referee and VAR’s decision not to disallow Girona’s second goal.

What started as typical pundit frustration quickly escalated into full-blown conspiracy territory, with Jordi absolutely losing his barnet over what he perceived as yet another officiating injustice against the Catalan giants.

”Abandon the league!”

In scenes that would make even the most passionate Arsenal fan down the Emirates look calm and collected, Jordi initially screamed at the camera, demanding Barcelona manager Flick take his players off the pitch in protest.

After cooling down slightly - and I use that term loosely - Jordi doubled down on his extraordinary claims:

  • He called for all Barcelona members and supporters to say “enough is enough”
  • Suggested the club should officially withdraw from La Liga competition
  • Claimed Madrid won’t be allowed to go two seasons without winning a trophy
  • Insisted Barcelona have already lost the title because “they won’t let us win it”

History of grievances

The pundit didn’t stop at current complaints, suggesting this perceived bias has been going on throughout Barcelona’s 120-year history. Talk about holding a grudge!

Jordi claimed the situation this season has been particularly “shameless” with decisions going against Barcelona “matchday after matchday”.

In his final declaration, he stated that if he were Barcelona president, he would issue an official statement announcing the club’s withdrawal from the Spanish top flight.

While Jordi’s comments represent the extreme end of fan frustration, they do highlight the ongoing tension between Spain’s biggest clubs and the perception of officiating standards in La Liga. Whether there’s any substance to his claims or it’s just sour grapes is another matter entirely.
