Ipurua Fortress: Eibar's home form surpassing even their legendary 80-point season
SD Eibar are making Ipurua an impenetrable fortress in Segunda División, with better home form than during their record-breaking 80-point campaign.
The Basque side are turning Ipurua into an absolute fortress this season, with their home form even outperforming their legendary 80-point campaign.
Ipurua: The Armeros’ Sanctuary
You’d have more luck getting a straight answer from my local bookie than taking points off Eibar at Ipurua this season. The Basque outfit have transformed their compact ground into an absolute nightmare for visiting teams in their fifth Segunda División campaign since relegation.
The numbers tell a proper story:
- 5 consecutive home victories on the bounce
- 30 points from a possible 42 at home
- Currently the best home record in Segunda División
What’s particularly striking is that their current home form is actually better than during their famous 80-point season after the same number of matches – they’ve got one more point at this stage! Only in the 2022/23 campaign did they have a stronger home record at this point, with 31 points after 26 matchdays.
Home Sweet Home
The contrast between Eibar’s home and away performances couldn’t be more stark. If their away form matched what they’re doing at Ipurua, we’d be talking about automatic promotion contenders rather than a side caught in mid-table purgatory – halfway between the playoff spots and relegation.
The stats are crystal clear about where their bread is buttered:
- 78% of their goals this season have come at Ipurua
- They’ve failed to score at home in just two matches (both draws)
- Six more points at home than at this stage last season
- Two more points than in Joseba Etxeberria’s first campaign
The Road Ahead
While they’re Bobby Dazzlers at home, their away form remains the elephant in the room. Their next challenge is a proper test – a trip to Riazor this Saturday to face Deportivo La Coruña, which will show whether they can translate any of that home magic to their travels.
If Eibar could find even a semblance of their home form when playing away, they might still have a shot at making a late charge toward those promotion spots. For now though, Ipurua remains their trump card – a sanctuary that’s becoming increasingly impenetrable as the season progresses.
