Abde buzzing about 'mad' Betis squad as he hits career-best form

Betis winger Ez Abde reflects on his best season yet, his relationship with teammates, and Champions League ambitions after helping secure a vital away win at Mallorca.

The Moroccan winger can’t stop grinning as he enjoys his finest spell in green and white, with nine goals and six assists already this season.

‘Mad’ Betis finding their stride

Ez Abde is absolutely buzzing about the current state of Real Betis following their impressive 2-1 away victory against Mallorca last Sunday. The Moroccan winger, who opened the scoring and earned MVP honors, didn’t mince his words when describing the team’s recent performances.

“The team is absolutely mad,” Abde told Betis TV, reflecting on their recent upturn in form that includes that stunning upset at the Metropolitano against Atlético Madrid.

The 22-year-old believes the squad is hitting peak form at just the right time: “We’ve been playing very well in recent matches. We’re in great shape, we just didn’t manage the game well against Atlético at home, but when we went to their place, we turned the tables completely.”

Personal renaissance in Seville

Abde’s third season in the verdiblancos shirt has seen him transform into a genuine difference-maker. With nine goals and six assists, he’s enjoying unprecedented productivity, though he insists he’s not done improving:

  • Monitors his own stats closely
  • Competes with teammates like Antony for goals
  • Credits Pellegrini as “one of the two most important coaches” in his career
  • Feels he’s found a “home” in Seville

“When I arrived here, I was younger and didn’t have clear ideas,” Abde explained. “Now with more minutes and games under my belt, I’m becoming a better footballer.”

Special connection with teammates

The winger highlighted his on-pitch chemistry with certain teammates, particularly Antony, who he describes as “like a brother” since arriving at the club. He also mentioned strong connections with Bakambu (off the pitch) and Cucho Hernández.

Abde reserved special praise for Betis supporters, comparing them to the passionate fans of the Moroccan national team: “There’s no fanbase in Spain like Betis. It reminds me a bit of the Moroccan national team supporters, which is also crazy.”

Champions League dreams

Despite an injury-hit squad, Abde remains confident about Betis’ prospects for the remainder of the season. With two consecutive home fixtures coming up, he’s targeting nothing less than six points.

And as for the team’s ambitions? The Moroccan isn’t afraid to aim high: “Why not dream of the Champions League? Dream big.”

If Abde continues his current form, those European nights at the Benito Villamarín might not be just a pipe dream after all.
