Corberán spotted scouting Villarreal at the Ciutat - back to the scene of derby triumph
Valencia boss Carlos Corberán returned to Levante's stadium just days after winning the derby there, this time to personally scout upcoming opponents Villarreal.
The gaffer’s taking no chances with his preparation for Valencia’s upcoming clash with Villarreal, heading back to familiar territory to do some proper homework on his next opponents.
Carlos Corberán, Valencia’s tactician, was spotted at the Ciutat de València stadium tonight watching Villarreal’s rescheduled match against Levante. This comes just three days after his side’s emotional derby victory at the very same venue.
Hands-on scouting approach
Rather than relying solely on the usual match reports and analysis videos, Corberán clearly values seeing things with his own mince pies. He took his place in the stands to personally assess Marcelino’s Villarreal outfit, who’ll be Valencia’s next La Liga opponents.
It’s a smart bit of business from the Valencia boss, who’s leaving no stone unturned in his preparation. After all, when you’re fighting to avoid the drop, every advantage counts.
Painful memories to avenge
The first meeting between these sides this season left a bitter taste for Valencia supporters:
- A comfortable 2-0 away win for Villarreal at Mestalla
- Goals from Gerard Moreno and Comesaña silenced the home crowd
- Highlighted the massive gulf between the two sides in the league table
Despite the significant quality difference on paper, Valencia managed to snatch a valuable point at La Cerámica last season thanks to Sadiq’s goal - giving Corberán hope that another result against the odds might be possible.
Staying above the fray
Interestingly, Corberán has remained completely detached from the controversy that erupted following the heated derby against Levante. Unlike some of his players who were involved in the post-match scuffles, the manager steered clear of the trouble spot entirely.
His only comment related to the incident was to apologize to Levante for Cömert’s excessive celebration - showing his class while keeping focus on the relegation battle that remains Valencia’s primary concern this season.
