Font unveils sporting trio for Barça presidential bid

Víctor Font has revealed the three key figures who would lead Barcelona's sporting department if he wins the club's presidential election on March 15th.

Barça presidential hopeful Víctor Font has played his cards, revealing the sporting brains trust that would guide the club’s football operations should he win next month’s election.

The Dream Team

Font’s sporting department would be led by a trio of Barcelona veterans with serious pedigree:

  • Carles Planchart: Former technical staff member who worked alongside Pep Guardiola
  • Albert Puig: Ex-head of La Masia youth development
  • Francesc Cos: Previously part of Luis Enrique’s coaching setup

All three have deep Barça DNA, having spent significant time at the club during some of its most successful periods. Notably missing from the announcement was the identity of the sporting director who would oversee this trio - Font explained this person remains under contract elsewhere and cannot be named yet.

Structure and Philosophy

Font’s vision involves a significant restructuring of the club’s hierarchy:

“We’ll go from having zero CEOs to having four, with one specifically overseeing the sporting department and sitting above these three individuals who will manage football operations,” Font explained during the presentation.

The trio would be responsible for identifying potential signings - both players and coaches - with final decisions made by the sporting director and board.

La Masia Focus

Puig, who previously headed Barcelona’s famed youth academy, emphasized the importance of local talent development, stating that “Catalonia is the best youth system in the world, apart from Brazil.”

This signals a clear intention to refocus on La Masia as a cornerstone of the club’s future, echoing the philosophy that produced the golden generation of Xavi, Iniesta and Messi.

Planchart, meanwhile, expressed his undying commitment to the blaugrana cause, saying that when Barcelona calls, he goes “on his knees with eyes closed” - proper devotion that, ain’t it?

The Bigger Picture

Font’s sporting structure aims to bring stability and increased professionalism to a club that has appeared rudderless in recent seasons. His team would focus on three core pillars: performance, technique, and youth development.

With the presidential election set for March 15th, Font’s sporting vision represents a clear alternative to other candidates, with an emphasis on Barcelona’s traditional values and a collaborative approach rather than a rigid hierarchy.
