Valencia cut ties with Foulquier as Renzo Saravia deal edges closer
Los Che move quickly to solve their right-back crisis by releasing injured Foulquier and pursuing free agent Saravia as their potential 12th signing of the season.
Valencia are wasting no time addressing their right-back crisis, officially deregistering the injured Dimitri Foulquier to make way for Argentine free agent Renzo Saravia.
Saravia set to become signing number 12
The 32-year-old former Atlético Mineiro defender is poised to become Valencia’s twelfth signing of the season as the Mestalla outfit scrambles to patch up their depleted defensive ranks. After bringing in eight players last summer and adding Sadiq, Guido and Unai during the January window, Los Che are now turning to the free agent market to solve their latest personnel problem.
Initially, Saravia was holding out for a minimum two-year contract, but negotiations appear to be progressing positively despite this early stumbling block. Valencia had to officially deregister Foulquier with the Spanish federation before pursuing any replacement – a process they completed today following the Frenchman’s surgery.
Right-back crisis at Mestalla
Valencia’s right-back situation has deteriorated rapidly in recent weeks:
- Foulquier now sidelined long-term after requiring surgery
- Thierry Correia plagued by persistent muscle injuries limiting his availability
- Unai Núñez (on loan from Celta) forced to fill in as an emergency right-back
While Núñez has performed admirably out of position, manager Rubén Corberán has been adamant about bringing in a specialist right-back to address the issue properly. With limited options available in the free agent market, Saravia represents one of the few viable solutions for Valencia at this stage of the season.
The Argentine defender has been without a club since leaving Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro, but brings considerable experience that could prove valuable for Valencia’s backline during the remainder of the campaign.
