Valencia secure long-term future of homegrown keeper Cristian Rivero with 2027 deal
Academy product Cristian Rivero commits his future to Valencia CF with a contract extension through 2027, continuing his 15+ year association with the club.
Valencia CF have tied down one of their own as homegrown goalkeeper Cristian Rivero extends his stay at the Mestalla until 2027, adding another year to his current deal.
Local lad made good
Rivero, born in Gandía on March 21, 1998, has been with Valencia since he was just 10 years old - that’s loyalty you rarely see in the modern game! The keeper has progressed through the club’s famed Academy VCF system, eventually making his first-team debut on December 16, 2020, in a Copa del Rey clash against Terrassa FC.
Development pathway
Like many young talents, Rivero’s journey hasn’t been a straight line to the Valencia first team. Over recent seasons, he’s gained valuable experience through loan spells at:
- AD Alcorcón
- Albacete Balompié
These moves have clearly helped his development, with the club noting he’s now firmly established in the first-team setup.
Training ground influence
While not yet the undisputed number one at Valencia, the club clearly values Rivero’s contribution behind the scenes. They’ve highlighted his work ethic and competitive nature in training sessions, where he pushes the goalkeeper unit to improve daily.
This extension represents a proper vote of confidence in a player who’s spent more than half his life at the club. In these cash-strapped times at Valencia, securing homegrown talent on long-term deals is absolutely crucial to the club’s future - a bit of common sense from the powers that be, for once!
With the club’s financial situation being what it is, having academy products like Rivero step up saves them a right few bob in the transfer market. Smart business all round from Los Che.
