Mallorca Facing €20,000 Fine After Allegedly Backing Radical Supporters Group

Spain's anti-violence commission has proposed a €20,000 fine for RCD Mallorca after the club allegedly gave a prominent role to a member of a radical fan group.

RCD Mallorca are in hot water again after Spain’s State Commission Against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport recommended a €20,000 fine for the Balearic club — and this ain’t the first time they’ve been in this particular mess.

What’s the Alleged Offence?

According to an investigation carried out by the National Sports Office (OND) of the Spanish National Police, Mallorca gave a prominent role inside the Son Moix’s supporters’ section to a known member of the group Supporters Mallorca.

Specifically, the club is accused of:

  • Handing that individual control of the lectern in the animation section of the stadium
  • Giving them exclusive access to the only authorised PA system in that part of the ground
  • Effectively boosting that person’s profile and authority among supporters in that sector

What makes it worse for Mallorca? They basically grassed themselves up. The club itself identified the supporter as a member of Supporters Mallorca in a letter sent to the OND back in September. Not exactly their sharpest moment.

Third Time’s Not the Charm

The Commission has classified this as a serious infringement under Spain’s Law 19/2007, the legislation designed to tackle violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport.

But here’s the bit that really stings — this is the third proposed sanction of this kind against RCD Mallorca since the end of 2023. Three times in little over a year. That’s not a blip, that’s a pattern, and the authorities are clearly keeping a very close eye on what’s happening inside Son Moix.

What Happens Next?

For now, this remains a proposal — the fine hasn’t been formally handed down yet. But given the evidence the OND has compiled, and the fact that Mallorca’s own correspondence appears to support the case against them, it’s hard to see them wriggling out of this one.

  • The proposed fine stands at €20,000
  • The case is being processed under Spanish anti-violence legislation
  • Mallorca have not yet publicly responded to the latest proposal

The Bigger Picture

This is becoming a real headache for a club that’s had a decent enough run in La Liga in recent seasons. Sporting progress on the pitch means nothing if you’re racking up disciplinary cases off it — especially ones involving radical fan groups. Spanish football authorities have been cracking down harder on clubs that, intentionally or not, legitimise these sorts of organisations, and Mallorca are finding themselves firmly in the spotlight.

Three proposals in just over a year is the sort of record that tends to get you noticed for all the wrong reasons.
