Ramadan Begins for Vedat Muriqi as Mallorca Enter Crucial Run of Fixtures

Vedat Muriqi has marked the start of Ramadan on social media as Mallorca face four pivotal La Liga matches — and he's in the form of his life.

Vedat Muriqi is heading into the most important stretch of Mallorca’s season while observing Ramadan — and if his current form is anything to go by, he’s doing just fine.

Ramadan Mubarak

The Kosovan striker took to his Instagram stories to acknowledge the start of Ramadan, which began on the evening of Tuesday 17 February and runs through to Thursday 19 March. Simple, understated, no fuss — very on-brand for Muriqi, who’s always come across as a proper straight-up footballer.

Now, it’s worth flagging that fasting during daylight hours is no small thing for an elite athlete. Back in 2023, Muriqi was honest about the challenges it presents, saying he couldn’t fast on matchdays or in the build-up to games. Whether he adapts his observance around fixtures this time around remains his own business, but the fact he’s publicly marking Ramadan shows how central his faith is to him — and rightly so. He was born in Prizren, a city in Kosovo where around 96% of the population is Muslim.

Four Massive Games on the Horizon

Here’s where it gets interesting. During the Ramadan period, Mallorca have four La Liga fixtures that could genuinely define their season:

  • Celta de Vigo
  • Real Sociedad
  • Osasuna
  • Espanyol

Jagoba Arrasate’s side will need points from those games if they want to push on in the table, and that means they’ll be leaning heavily on their talisman.

The Numbers Are Ridiculous

Let’s talk about how good Muriqi has been this season, because it genuinely doesn’t get enough attention outside of Spain:

  • 16 goals in 24 La Liga appearances — his best-ever return in Spanish football
  • That accounts for more than 50% of Mallorca’s total league goals (16 of their 29)
  • He’s just one goal away from matching his personal best for a single season — 17 goals for Rizespor in the Turkish Süper Lig back in 2018/19

For a club like Mallorca, having one player carry that kind of attacking load is both a blessing and a concern. He is, without question, their diamond geezer right now.

World Cup Playoff in Sight

Beyond the club stuff, Muriqi has a massive personal target on the horizon. Kosovo face Slovakia on 26 March in a World Cup playoff semi-final, with a place at the 2026 tournament in Canada, the United States and Mexico up for grabs. For a nation still fighting for recognition on the world stage, it would be an enormous moment — and Muriqi, as their main man up top, knows exactly what’s at stake.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a proper hectic couple of months for the big lad. Ramadan Mubarak, Vedat.
