Swedberg's Best Goalscoring Season at Celta Vigo — And He's Only 22
Williot Swedberg has already surpassed his previous best tally at Celta Vigo this season, with six goals across La Liga and the Europa League.
Williot Swedberg is quietly putting together the best goalscoring campaign of his Celta Vigo career — and with months still to go, the Swedish forward looks set to blow his previous records clean out of the water.
The Numbers Tell the Story
In his first three seasons at Celta, Swedberg never managed more than five league goals in a single campaign. This term, he’s already hit six — three in La Liga, three in the Europa League — across 24 appearances totalling 1,136 minutes on the pitch.
To put that in context:
- Season 1: Barely played, zero goals
- Seasons 2 & 3: Five goals each
- This season: Six and counting
It might not sound like Erling Haaland territory, but for a 22-year-old still developing his game, the upward trajectory is proper encouraging.
Closing In on a Century
Since rocking up at the Galician club as an 18-year-old, Swedberg has now made 86 official appearances for Celta. That means, barring something going badly pear-shaped, he could well reach the 100-cap milestone before the season’s out — a nice little landmark for a lad who’s essentially grown up at the club.
In those 86 games, he’s bagged 16 goals in total. Again, not earth-shattering, but the trend is pointing in the right direction.
The Contract Situation
Here’s where it gets interesting from a transfer perspective. Last summer, Swedberg put pen to paper on a new deal keeping him at Celta until 2029 — so he’s not going anywhere in a hurry, at least not without someone paying proper money.
And you’d have to imagine there will be suitors sniffing around come the summer window. He’s young, he’s improving season on season, and he plays with a directness that suits a lot of top-half European clubs. Celta will be well aware of what they’ve got on their hands.
The Bigger Picture
Celta have had a decent enough season — the Europa League involvement alone speaks to that — and Swedberg has been a genuine contributor rather than a passenger. If he can keep this form going through the business end of the campaign, both domestically and in Europe, it’s only going to drive that market value north.
One to watch. Proper.
