Januzaj Returns to Sevilla Squad for Getafe Trip as Juanlu and Jordán Sit Out Suspensions

Adnan Januzaj is back in Almeyda's 23-man squad for Sunday's clash at Getafe, while Juanlu and Joan Jordán miss out after red cards vs Alavés.

Sevilla head to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Sunday lunchtime with a reshuffled squad — and a manager who’ll be watching from the stands for the first of seven games on the naughty step.

Januzaj’s Back, Then

The big news is the return of Adnan Januzaj, who’s been missing from recent matchday squads through injury. The Belgian winger is fit enough to travel with the delegation, though Almeyda was careful to manage expectations — don’t go expecting him to start. The Argentine gaffer made it pretty clear that after such a long spell on the sidelines, Januzaj will be eased back in rather than chucked straight into the deep end. Think impact sub rather than first name on the teamsheet.

Two Big Absences

Less good news: Juanlu and Joan Jordán are both suspended after picking up red cards last Saturday in the defeat to Alavés. Jordán copped a two-match ban, so he’ll miss this one and the next. Juanlu is also out. Sevilla were already navigating a tricky run of fixtures — losing those two doesn’t exactly help.

Almeyda in the Stands

Perhaps the strangest subplot here is that Almeyda himself won’t be in the dugout. Sunday’s game at Getafe is the first of seven matches he’s banned for following that same Alavés flashpoint. Seven games is a serious chunk of the season — whoever takes charge on the touchline has got a proper job on their hands.

The Full 23

Here’s who made the cut:

  • Goalkeepers: Odysseas, Nyland, Rafa Romero
  • Defenders: Carmona, Kike Salas, Azpilicueta, Nianzou, Gudelj, Cardoso, Gattoni, Suazo
  • Midfielders: Agoumé, Mendy, Sow, Manu Bueno, Peque
  • Forwards/Attackers: Januzaj, Ejuke, Miguel Sierra, Alexis, Isaac, Maupay, Akor

What to Watch

Getafe away is never a lovely afternoon out — they’re gritty, physical, and the Coliseum is hardly the Bernabéu for vibes. Sevilla will need to be switched on from the off, especially with the suspension disruptions and a manager communicating from the stands. Maupay and Akor will need to carry the attacking threat, while the midfield looks a bit thin without Jordán pulling the strings.

Kickoff is at 14:00 local time on Sunday. Should be a proper battle.
