'SuperLópez' Completes a Perfect League Record Across 38 Consecutive Wins

Real Madrid academy coach Álvaro López has now won 38 consecutive league matches across three different youth teams — and just hit 150 career wins at La Fábrica.

If you haven’t heard the name Álvaro López yet, you’re well behind. Real Madrid’s academy is quietly producing one of the most remarkable managerial records in youth football, and this bloke is the one writing it.

The 38-Game Run That Defies Belief

López has now won 38 consecutive league matches — and the mad thing is, that run spans two seasons and three different teams. Here’s how it broke down:

  • 19 wins to close last season with the Cadete A
  • 15 wins to open this season with the Juvenil C
  • 4 wins since taking charge of the Juvenil A in January

The latest came in a tidy 5-0 win over Trival Valderas at Valdebebas, which also helped the Juvenil A extend their lead at the top of the table after Atlético dropped points and now sit 12 points adrift — with a game in hand, mind.

150 Wins and Counting at La Fábrica

That victory also brought up another landmark: 150 career wins as a coach inside Real Madrid’s academy system. López first took a dugout at Valdebebas back in the 2019-20 season with the Alevín A, and the numbers since then are genuinely ridiculous:

SeasonTeamW / P
2019-20Alevín A19/20
2020-21Alevín B (Fútbol 7)26/26
2022-23Alevín A29/30
2023-24Infantil B25/30
2024-25Cadete A29/30
2024-25Juvenil C + A22/23

That’s an almost comical win rate across every level he’s worked at. A perfect 26 from 26 in Fútbol 7 is one thing, but maintaining that kind of consistency as the players get older and the football gets more serious? That’s a different kettle of fish entirely.

Started the Season With 20 Wins From 20

Earlier this campaign, López also became the first coach at the club to win his opening 20 matches of a single season — 15 with the Juvenil C, then five with the Juvenil A, including a Youth League win over Marseille. He took over the Juvenil A in early January and hasn’t looked back.

Who Is This Geezer?

López is himself a former Madrid cantera lad, coming through the academy during the same era as the likes of Carvajal, Lucas Vázquez, Álvaro Morata, and Rodrigo Moreno. He clearly learned a thing or two during his time there, because what he’s doing on the touchline now is turning heads all over Valdebebas.

At a club where the first-team spotlight never dims, it’s easy to overlook what’s happening in the youth ranks. But López is making that increasingly difficult to do. The bloke’s record speaks for itself — and it’s well worth paying attention to.
