Dro Fernández is already winning over PSG — and it's only been a month
The Barcelona academy product has hit the ground running in Paris, earning rave reviews from teammates and Luis Enrique after his first PSG start.
The Barça lad who couldn’t get a look-in under Flick is already starting games in Paris. Dro Fernández made his first PSG start in a comfortable 3-0 win over Metz, and the early signs are that this loan move is doing him a world of good.
More minutes in a month than all season at Barça
This is the bit that really tells the story. In just one month at PSG, Dro has already clocked more league minutes in Paris than he managed in the entire La Liga campaign under Hansi Flick. We’re talking 145 Ligue 1 minutes versus 89 in La Liga — and that’s before you even factor in his Champions League appearances with Barça.
He came off in the 63rd minute against Metz, but that’s not a concern — Luis Enrique is clearly managing him carefully, which makes sense given how young he is.
Teammates absolutely buzzing about him
The reception in the dressing room has been something else. Gonçalo Ramos was full of it after the Metz win, saying the youngster plays “as if he’s been here a year, when it’s only been a month” — and that kind of quote from a senior player tells you everything about how quickly Dro has settled.
- His technical quality has already gone viral on social media, with a lovely bit of skill from his debut against Marseille doing the rounds
- Teammates have welcomed him with open arms
- He’s been involved in all three PSG matches since that Classique debut
One thing he wasn’t expecting
Dro has been honest about where he needs to improve, and fair play to him for that. The physical intensity of Ligue 1 has caught him slightly off guard — he admitted he expected the level to be lower, and that the opposition sides have been tough and physical in every game. He knows there’s work to do on that side of things.
It’s a decent reality check for a player who’s spent his whole development at one of the most technically refined academies in the world. Ligue 1 is a different beast.
Luis Enrique clearly rates him
The PSG boss has been measured but clearly enthusiastic. He’s praised Dro’s ball retention, his defensive work, and his overall quality — while also making the point that the lad is still very young and still in his development process. The key thing is that Enrique seems genuinely excited to be working with him, which bodes well for the rest of the loan.
If he keeps this up, there are going to be some serious conversations at the Camp Nou in the summer about what exactly their plan is for this kid.
