Iniesta keeping his Barcelona election vote close to his chest
Andrés Iniesta has confirmed he'll vote in the upcoming Barça presidential elections — but who he's backing? That's staying firmly private.
Andrés Iniesta was doing the rounds at a LaLiga x Airbnb event this week, chatting about community, belonging, and the beauty of small-town Spain — but inevitably, the conversation turned to the club that made him a legend.
Voting yes, saying nothing
With Barcelona’s presidential elections on the horizon, Iniesta confirmed he’ll be casting his vote as a club member — he always does when he gets the chance. But don’t expect him to be out here campaigning for anyone.
When pressed on whether he’d go public with his choice, the response was vintage Iniesta: calm, measured, and absolutely giving nothing away. “Normally it’s private,” he said, and that was that. Classic.
You’ve got to respect the man for not getting dragged into the politics of it all. He made clear his view is simple — whatever the members decide is what’s best for Barça. Job done.
On the corruption allegations against Laporta
This is where it got a bit more interesting. With accusations swirling around Joan Laporta ahead of the vote, Iniesta acknowledged the noise but didn’t take the bait:
- He noted that this sort of thing always seems to surface around election time — nothing new there
- His line was essentially: every member will weigh things up and vote for what they think is best for the club
- No finger-pointing, no drama — very on-brand for the man
Barça as La Liga favourites
Iniesta was pretty bullish about his old side’s title chances. They’re back on top of the table and he reckons they’re the team to beat. He acknowledged it’ll be a proper scrap — it always is in La Liga — but his heart is clearly with the blaugrana lifting the trophy come May.
Lamine Yamal and the Ballon d’Or
Iniesta was full of praise for Lamine, and why wouldn’t he be? His take:
- The kid has the talent and the work ethic to go all the way
- Whether a Ballon d’Or happens depends on him continuing to develop
- It’d be a massive deal for both Barça fans and Spain as a whole if he gets there
Hard to argue with any of that, really.
The World Cup
On the tournament coming up, Iniesta said he’s excited and hopeful — he wants to see the national team do something special. The man knows a thing or two about that, obviously.
The Airbnb experience
On a lighter note, the whole event was tied to a LaLiga and Airbnb partnership where lucky fans can win a day out with Iniesta in Fuentealbilla — his hometown in Castilla-La Mancha. Think local food, a kickabout in the village, and quality time with one of the greatest to ever do it. Not a bad prize, that.
