Andorra FC dealt major blow as Edgar González faces three months on the sidelines
Andorra FC lose winter signing Edgar González to a serious adductor injury, with the centre-back ruled out for up to three months at a crucial stage of the season.
Gerard Piqué’s Andorra FC have been handed a proper nightmare just weeks after bringing in one of their key winter reinforcements — centre-back Edgar González is out for up to three months with a serious muscle injury.
What happened?
Edgar picked up the injury during a training session last week, and after further tests the club confirmed the worst: an avulsion of the long adductor in his right leg. That’s not a minor knock — that’s a significant chunk of the season gone, with the estimated recovery window sitting somewhere between two and a half and three months.
The club moved quickly to put out a statement confirming the diagnosis and noting that Edgar is already working with the medical staff to get himself back fit as soon as possible.
Terrible timing
Here’s what makes it sting even more for manager Carles Manso:
- Edgar only arrived in January on loan from Almería, so he’s barely had time to settle in
- Before joining Andorra, he’d been out on loan at Croatian side Hajduk Split in the first half of the season, where he didn’t get much of a look-in either
- He’d played just 270 minutes for the club — three full games — before going down
- Those three matches brought zero wins: a draw against Huesca and defeats to Castellón and Real Sociedad B
So the lad has barely pulled on the shirt and now he’s watching from the treatment table. Rough.
Why it matters
Manso had made no secret of the fact he rated Edgar as an important piece of his defensive setup — which makes this all the more gutting. Andorra are already navigating a tricky period in Segunda División, and losing a centre-back you specifically went out to sign in January is far from ideal.
With the loan signing now unavailable for the foreseeable, Manso will need to shuffle his defensive options and hope the rest of his backline can hold things together while Edgar goes through his rehab.
It’s the sort of injury news that makes you wonder whether the football gods are having a proper laugh. You bring someone in to strengthen, and within weeks they’re on the physio’s table. Diabolical luck.
