Benfica's Tralhão and Aursnes Face the Press Ahead of Real Madrid Clash
Benfica's assistant boss Tralhão and midfielder Aursnes spoke to the media ahead of their Champions League tie against Real Madrid.
Benfica rocked up to the press conference ahead of one of the biggest games in European football, and it was assistant manager João Tralhão and Norwegian midfielder Fredrik Aursnes who stepped up to face the cameras.
The Build-Up to the Bernabéu
This is proper Champions League stuff, innit. Real Madrid versus Benfica — two of the most decorated clubs in the history of the competition going head to head, and the Portuguese side are clearly not treating it like a jolly to Madrid. Sending out your number two alongside one of your key midfielders shows they mean business in the pre-match presser.
Tralhão, standing in for head coach Bruno Lage at the media duties, held his own in front of the press pack. It’s never easy being the one who has to front these things when you’re not the main gaffer, but the Portuguese coach kept things tight and professional.
Aursnes — The Man in the Middle
Aursnes is an interesting one to wheel out for this sort of occasion. The Norwegian has become a proper reliable figure in Benfica’s midfield since moving to Lisbon, and he’s not the type to say something daft in front of the cameras. A solid, composed presence — much like his game, to be fair.
A few things worth noting from the occasion:
- This was the pre-match press conference ahead of the Real Madrid vs Benfica Champions League fixture
- Benfica sent their assistant coach rather than the head man, which is fairly standard for away legs at this level
- Aursnes represented the playing side, suggesting he’s likely to feature in the matchday squad
What It Means
Look, Real Madrid at the Bernabéu in the Champions League is about as tough a draw as it gets. Benfica have history in this competition — they’ve won it twice and they’re not some minnow rocking up starstruck. But taking points off Los Blancos on their own patch? That’s a right old ask.
Tralhão and Aursnes will have kept their cards close to their chest, as you’d expect. No manager worth his salt is giving away the game plan 24 hours before kick-off, especially not against a side managed by Carlo Ancelotti with the likes of Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé lurking about.
Benfica will need to be at their absolute best — disciplined, organised, and clinical on the counter if they’re going to nick anything from this one. The pressure’s on, but at least they’re not going in blind. They’ve done their homework, and Tralhão made sure the world knew they’re taking this seriously.
Should be a proper good watch.
