Deportivo de la Coruña open Galicia's first ever football museum at Riazor
Deportivo de la Coruña have unveiled a brand new museum at Riazor, the first dedicated football museum in Galicia, covering 1,445 square metres of club history.
Deportivo de la Coruña have done something genuinely brilliant — they’ve opened a proper museum dedicated to the club, and it’s the first of its kind in all of Galicia.
A proper home for Blanquiazul history
Nestled right in the heart of the Estadio Municipal de Riazor, the new Deportivo Museum spans a whopping 1,445 square metres and houses more than 250 exhibits covering the full sweep of the club’s history. That’s not a cabinet with a few old scarves and a dusty trophy — this is a serious cultural institution.
And it’s not just a vanity project, either. The museum has been formally integrated into the Galician Museums Network (Centros Museísticos de Galicia), which currently counts 98 spaces across the region. Dépor are now part of that official cultural fabric, which feels right for a club so deeply woven into the identity of A Coruña.
What the big wigs had to say
Club president Fernando Escotet was well chuffed at the inauguration, calling it a success and describing the museum as a space that preserves the club’s legacy while projecting it into the future. Alfonso Rueda, President of the Xunta de Galicia (the regional government), was also in attendance and spoke warmly about the contribution of institutions like Deportivo to Galician culture.
Two ways to visit — your options
The museum opens its doors this Thursday, and there are a couple of ways to experience it:
- Guided tour — lasts around 1 hour 40 minutes, priced between €12 and €17
- Self-guided visit — roughly 1 hour 15 minutes at your own pace, priced between €5 and €14
So whether you’re a die-hard who wants every last detail explained or just fancy a wander through the history, there’s an option for you. The pricing is pretty reasonable too — you’ve spent more than that on a pint at the Emirates, let’s be honest.
Why this matters
Deportivo might be grinding away in Segunda División right now, but this museum is a reminder of the sheer scale of what this club represents. They were a genuine force in European football not so long ago, and having a permanent, official home for that history — right inside Riazor — feels like a statement of intent about where the club sees itself going.
For any football tourist heading to Galicia, this just became a proper must-visit.
