Jakobsen's Big Chance as Camara Ban Rocks Castellón Ahead of Crunch Clash

Ousmane Camara's suspension hands Adam Jakobsen a rare start for Castellón against Racing de Santander in a massive Segunda División promotion clash.

Castellón’s most important match of the season so far just got a whole lot more complicated — and for one player, a whole lot more interesting.

Camara Out, Door Opens for Jakobsen

Outside forward Ousmane Camara will miss Saturday’s huge home fixture against Racing de Santander after picking up his fifth yellow card in the game against Las Palmas. Proper bad timing, that. The Guinean attacker has been Castellón’s standout performer in the final third this season — he’s the club’s top scorer with seven goals — so losing him for a match of this magnitude is a real blow for manager Pablo Hernández.

But where one door closes, another opens. Step forward Adam Jakobsen, the Dane who holds the distinction of being Castellón’s most expensive signing ever, and who’s barely had a look-in lately.

The Jakobsen Story So Far

It’s been a frustrating campaign for Jakobsen, if we’re being honest:

  • He started the season regularly and looked decent
  • A injury sustained against Andorra on 22 November knocked him right out of the picture, just as he was hitting his stride
  • He returned to action on 3 January against Huesca, coming off the bench
  • Since then, he’s managed just one start in three months
  • Camara’s brilliant form has made it near impossible for him to force his way back in

Now, though, circumstance has handed him a proper opportunity — and in a promotion six-pointer, no less. No pressure, mate.

Another Option Up Top

Jakobsen isn’t Hernández’s only alternative. Winter signing Álvaro García, who arrived from Mérida, is also in the mix. The Cantabrian forward has featured in three games for the club since joining, all as a substitute. Whether Hernández trusts him to start a match this big remains to be seen.

The Sienra Situation

Camara’s ban isn’t the only selection headache in the Castellón camp. Defender Agustín Sienra was sent off against Gran Canaria after two bookings — the second for bringing down an opponent and denying a promising attack in the 85th minute.

Castellón reckon that second yellow was over the top, and they’ve lodged an official appeal to get it overturned. If it goes their way, Sienra is available on Saturday. If not, Fabrizio Brignani — the man who rescued a last-gasp draw in Gran Canaria — steps in at centre-back.

Either way, it’s shaping up to be a lively one at the SkyFi Castalia. Castellón need the points in their push for promotion, and the squad is being tested before a ball’s even been kicked.
