Xisco Campos to take Mallorca training as club scramble for new manager
Former Mallorca captain Xisco Campos steps in to lead training after Jagoba Arrasate's sacking, with the club yet to appoint a replacement.
Mallorca are in a bit of a state right now — no permanent manager, a relegation battle on their hands, and Real Sociedad coming to Son Moix on Saturday.
What’s happened
Jagoba Arrasate was shown the door after a torrid run of form, and the club moved quickly to confirm his exit on Tuesday — the same day the squad got a rest day. In a press conference at Son Moix, a large chunk of the Mallorca squad turned up to say their goodbyes to the Basque coach, which tells you something about how he was regarded in the dressing room even if results had gone pear-shaped.
Arrasate had been brought in during the summer of 2024, but three consecutive defeats and a club sitting in the relegation zone for the tenth week of the 2025/26 season made his position untenable. The board had seen enough.
Xisco Campos steps in
So who’s running the show for now? Step forward Xisco Campos, the 43-year-old former Mallorca captain who had been serving as assistant coach with the first team. He’ll take charge of Wednesday’s open training session at the Ciudad Deportiva Antonio Asensio — the session that’s open to the media, so all eyes will be on how the squad looks and feels under a familiar face.
Xisco is a proper Mallorca man. The players know him, the fans know him, and having him at the helm — even temporarily — is probably the steadiest hand available right now.
The problem: no new boss yet
Here’s the bit that’ll have Mallorca fans a bit anxious:
- The sporting director has not yet confirmed or signed a replacement for Arrasate
- Mallorca host Real Sociedad on Saturday 28th February, kick-off 18:30
- That’s jornada 26 of LaLiga, and it’s a massive game for a side deep in the drop zone
The clock is ticking. Whether the club can get someone through the door and up to speed before Saturday remains to be seen. If not, Xisco Campos could find himself in the dugout for a crucial league fixture with very little time to prepare.
Bottom line
Mallorca are in genuine trouble. Sitting in the relegation places for ten weeks of the season is not a blip — it’s a pattern. Whoever comes in needs to sort things out sharpish, because the fixtures aren’t getting any easier and the gap to safety won’t close itself.
For now, it’s Xisco’s show. Let’s see what he does with it.
