Copete Out for the Season After Knee Surgery Blow Rocks Valencia
Valencia defender Copete faces season-ending knee surgery after a meniscus injury, piling more misery on Carlos Corberán's injury-ravaged squad.
Valencia’s injury crisis has gone from bad to absolutely dire — centre-back Copete is done for the season after being diagnosed with a meniscus injury to his left knee that requires surgery.
The Main Blow
Copete had genuinely nailed down a starting spot at the back, looking like one of the more reliable figures in a Valencia defence that’s had precious little stability this campaign. Now he’s heading to the operating table and won’t kick another ball this season. By all accounts, the lad is gutted — and honestly, fair enough.
A Backline That’s Falling Apart
The timing is brutal when you consider the wider picture at Valencia:
- Diakhaby is also out injured and has been for a while
- Foulquier has had surgery and has been officially deregistered from the squad
- Unai Núñez, signed in the January window, has settled in quickly but has largely been used at full-back rather than his natural centre-back position
- Renzo Saravia has just arrived, and if he can get himself up to speed sharpish, it could free Núñez to slot back into the middle — something Saravia himself hinted at during his unveiling
So basically, Carlos Corberán is trying to build a back four out of spare parts right now. Not ideal.
Beltrán Adding to the Worry
As if the Copete news wasn’t enough to ruin your Tuesday, Lucas Beltrán is also a major doubt. He missed the Villarreal game at La Cerámica and is still feeling discomfort in his knee. He was spotted leaving the training ground on Tuesday morning with one of the club’s medical staff to undergo further tests. The feeling around the club is that he won’t be fit for the weekend’s clash with Osasuna — a game that’s looking increasingly significant in the context of Valencia’s season.
What It Means for Corberán
This is a proper headache for the Valencia manager. The run-in was always going to be tough, but navigating it with a makeshift defence and key attacking players in the treatment room is a different kind of challenge altogether.
The Osasuna fixture this weekend now feels even more high-stakes — and doing it without Copete, potentially without Beltrán, and with a cobbled-together defensive unit is not the sort of preparation any manager wants.
Valencia fans will be hoping the injury gods give them a bit of a break soon. Right now, it’s all a bit of a nightmare, innit.
