Leganés snap up Danish teenage striker Alfred Gøthler ahead of 2026/27 season

CD Leganés have signed 18-year-old Danish forward Alfred Gøthler from HB Køge on a deal running until 2030, continuing their eye for young talent.

Leganés are at it again — quietly doing their thing in the transfer market while the big clubs are busy making noise elsewhere.

The deal

The Segunda División side have confirmed the signing of Alfred Gøthler, an 18-year-old Danish striker currently plying his trade at HB Køge in the Danish top flight. He’ll join up with the Pepineros ahead of the 2026/27 season, with his contract running through to 2030. So yeah, they’re backing themselves on this one — a four-year deal for a lad who’s still a teenager.

Who is he, then?

Right, let’s have a proper look at what Leganés are getting here:

  • Age: 18 years old
  • Club: HB Køge (Danish Superliga)
  • Position: Forward / attacker
  • International: Denmark Under-19s
  • Debut: Made his first-team bow at just 16 years old
  • This season: Chipped in with four goals in the first half of the campaign

He’s been on the radar of clubs across Europe for a while now, which tells you everything — when Danish football starts losing its gems to the continent, you know someone’s doing something right.

The bigger picture

This isn’t a one-off punt from Leganés. It’s part of a clear, consistent philosophy at the club — find raw, hungry young talent before the bigger fish get there, bring them in, develop them, and see what happens.

A few months back they brought in Iker Chaparro from the Basque Country’s youth setup, and now Gøthler is the next piece of that puzzle. It’s a proper scouting operation, not just scrolling through Football Manager at 2am.

Gøthler will stay at HB Køge for the remainder of this season, so Leganés fans won’t get to see him in action until the summer at the earliest. Bit of a wait, but if the early signs are anything to go by, it could well be worth it.

Verdict

Look, Leganés aren’t splashing the readies on big names — they can’t. But what they are doing is building something considered and sustainable. Snapping up a Denmark youth international who’s already been a first-team regular since he was 16? That’s decent business, full stop.

One to keep your mince pies on.
