Eddahchouri Ends Goal Drought During Ramadan — and He's Not Surprised

Deportivo de la Coruña striker Zakaria Eddahchouri breaks a three-month goal drought right as Ramadan begins, and the Dutch forward says it's all about routine.

Zakaria Eddahchouri has ended a three-month goal drought — and he’s done it while fasting. The Deportivo de la Coruña striker broke his dry spell at the very start of Ramadan, and if you think that’s a contradiction, he’d very much like a word.

Fourteen Years of This

Look, some players struggle to perform when their pre-match meal gets disrupted. Eddahchouri has been navigating Ramadan as a professional footballer for over a decade, so he’s not exactly losing sleep over it — well, not for that reason anyway.

The Dutch forward has been doing this for 14 years by his own count, and he’s got the routine dialled in:

  • Morning nutrition is everything — loading up properly before the fast begins is his foundation
  • Mental preparation is just as important as the physical side, and he treats it as a genuine challenge to embrace rather than endure
  • The club’s medical staff are fully across it, helping tailor his preparation around match days

As he put it himself, with a good diet as the key, it becomes manageable — and clearly it does, given he’s just ended a three-month barren run.

Joint Top Scorer at Deportivo

With that goal, Eddahchouri is now level with Yeremay at the top of Deportivo’s internal scoring charts, both sitting on nine goals for the season. Not bad for a fella who hadn’t found the net in three months. It’s the sort of return that makes you wonder what all the fuss was about.

The fact he’s sharing the Pichichi honours with Yeremay — one of the more exciting wide players in Segunda División right now — says a lot about how important Eddahchouri has become to this Deportivo side since their return to the second tier.

Eyes on Sanse

Next up for Deportivo is a trip to the Basque Country to face Real Madrid’s reserve side, Real Madrid Castilla — known as Sanse — at Zubieta. It’s the kind of fixture where a striker in form wants to be involved, and Eddahchouri is making no secret of his ambitions.

That said, he’s keeping his head straight about it. He’s been clear that the team’s game plan comes before individual glory — goals are brilliant, but the collective matters more to him. Whether the manager starts him is out of his hands; what he can control is how he prepares.

The Bigger Picture

There’s something genuinely impressive about a player managing the physical demands of Ramadan at this level without it becoming a storyline of struggle. For Eddahchouri, it’s just… Tuesday. Fourteen years of practice will do that.

With Deportivo pushing for a strong finish to the Segunda División season, having their joint-top scorer hitting form again — fasting or otherwise — is exactly the kind of boost the Galician club will be buzzing about right now.
